Confirm LifePod 2.0 / VLP20 or RAPiD 2700KP / 98172. A leftover LifePod 1.0 is a shorter interior. A 2600KP is the smaller Hornady. Measure overall length of the empty interior, not a brochure pistol photo.

Who should buy the LifePod 2.0, and who should buy the 2700KP?

Buy the LifePod 2.0 if the box has to travel, float, and still open with a code you did not write on a sticky note. Buy the 2700KP if the box lives at home and you want steel plus RFID you will actually practice. Buy neither if the job is a long gun in a closet. That is a case and a safe. Responsible storage is the habit. This page is two boxes.

What the LifePod 2.0 is actually for

Interior is about 9.6 by 7.3 by 2.1 inches. Vaultek’s sheet says a firearm up to 9.25 inches. Measure the empty interior yourself. A listing photo of a pistol is not a measurement. The box works as a weather case without a battery. The lock wants the 9V.

What the RAPiD 2700KP is actually for

2700KP is Hornady’s XL RFID lockbox: 14-gauge steel, two locking lugs, RFID wristband and fob and decals, a keypad you program, barrel keys, AC adapter, batteries, a heavy cable. Exterior is about 12.7 by 8.7 by 2.9 inches. Interior is about 9 by 7.7 by 2.2. Hornady’s sheet says most 1911-sized pistols or 4-inch revolvers. Again: measure the empty box. ASTM child-resistance language is Hornady’s claim. Practice the RFID before you need it. A fob in a junk drawer is a keypad night.

A motel night is a cable, or the box walks with you

A lockbox on a nightstand in a room you do not control is a hope. A LifePod in a duffel under a bed is a zipper away from a housekeeper you have not met. The 2700KP is a house box. It is a miserable travel weight. Leave it at home.
