Woman’s World:

What Men Really Think
Strengthening a relationship

By Deb Bronsenr

For years men dominated the hunting world. Women were not expected, and in some cases, not even allowed to participate in this sport. Men went to “deer camp” and joined hunting clubs and organizations. Even today, there are still some hunting clubs that are off limits to women. However, according to statistics I have read, women make up the fastest growing group to join the hunting industry today. There are now clothing lines solely for the female hunting population.

So, how do men really feel about women in the outdoors? Although I’m sure there are those who are still opposed to having women join this sport, it seems that many men are pleased to have this happen. Women are appearing in sporting magazines and on hunting shows more frequently. Today I watched an episode of Escape to the Wild on Versus Country. I enjoyed watching Alicia Posley shoot a nice whitetail on the last day of a dream hunt she had won. It was interesting to see the camaraderie that formed between Alicia and the guys on the ranch. I couldn’t help think that it was somehow different than that of the camaraderie between men. Alicia did a great job and tagged a nice buck. At the end of the show, I couldn’t help but think of Brad Paisley’s song, “I’m Still a Guy” when the guide jokingly said he was looking for the “off button” to stop her talking. With all kidding aside, from what I have seen, it appears that men are embracing the rising popularity of women in the outdoors.
