Outdoors Magazine's
March Photo Contest Winner
The inaugural
month of Outdoors Magazine's first photo contest saw a
tidal wave of submissions from across the country.
"The
response was absolutely remarkable," said Outdoors
Magazine Editor Kyle Scanlon. "We had hundreds of photos
submitted. There were fish pictures from the Great Lakes,
deer pictures from Texas, elk pictures from Colorado, snowmobiling
photos from Maine…the list goes on and on.
Our judges really had their work cut out for them."
"In the end,
the winner's picture was chosen by the slightest of margins,"
he said.
Ultimately, Scott
Smolen of Mondovi, WI was selected as the March winner for his
photo titled "Crab Claw."
"He was a
special buck in that I had at least 25 pictures of him on my game
camera. I had watched him throughout the summer, so when he came
walking down the logging road in November and I was able to get a
shot and make good on it, it was a truly memorable moment. He now
is displayed in my loft for me to enjoy forever," said Smolen.
All photos were
judged on composition, clarity, and the way the photo captured a
"Memorable Moment" in the outdoors. As a monthly winner,
Mr. Smolen will take home an assortment of outdoor merchandise. In
addition, he will advance to the final round of the contest where
he will be eligible to win a guided hare hunt at Pine Grove Lodge
in Pleasant Ridge, Maine.
